Google beefs up local advertising with logos
Excerpts from a story via yahoo / reuters…
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Internet search leader Google Inc. on Thursday began offering marketers more features for local advertising, allowing them to add logos and business information to their listings on a Google map.
Local advertising on the Internet is expected to be a prime driver of growth in the sector.
The new features allow an advertiser to insert a business logo or picture in a balloon that pops up next to its location on the Google map, as well as provide additional information in several lines of text, such as a phone number of business description.

From: TechCrunch » Evoca Sounds Off to Odeo
Savannah, Georgia based Evoca’s new service to record and publish voice recordings has a number of features that allow it to stand out from the “click, record†crowd. I have been in contact with founders Muren Sharpe and Diego Orjuela since December, and tonight they gave me a complete overview of the service.
This young space is already crowded - competitors include Odeo, Springdoo, YackPack, Waxmail and others (of these, Odeo clearly has the branding lead). I can see each of these companies struggling to find the right business model, feature mix and consumer messaging. Evoca has a strong case for getting it at least mostly right.

Suprising info about Skype - the much hyped free video conferencing platform that offers encrypted communications, and is quite popular with many who are constantly using cutting edge tech tools…
From Computerworld > Skype: hazardous to network health?
While not exactly a low-profile endeavour before its recent acquisition by eBay, Skype is sure to be an even greater presence on the internet and on home computers — and most likely on your corporate network. But can Skype be hazardous to your network’s health?
It might come as no surprise that you could be carrying Skype traffic for your user base but are you are aware that your LAN and WAN links might be carrying the VoIP traffic of complete strangers? That is, traffic of VoIP conversations that neither originate nor terminate on your network. In effect, you are donating what can be scarce and expensive WAN bandwidth to your newly minted multi-millionaire friends at Skype. (I’m sure, however, that they greatly appreciate it.)
